WHo is Travis?

About Me

My name is Travis and I am the guy behind Tekton Travis. I grew up on a job site and have worked in the construction trades in Southern California my whole life. My passion for building, crafting, and learning new skills on my own fuels me to share my journey with others in the same boat. Here is my story:

Who’s Travis?

I am a husband, father, craftsman, builder, provider, and learner with a passion for working with my hands. I have spent nearly all of my life with tools in my hands and have a goal to grow and help others build the confidence to tackle projects on their own with a DIY frame of mind.

From childhood, I always had a tool in my hands. I grew up on a small family legacy ranch in Southern California where I spent my whole upbringing building and constantly maintaining everything from rock walls to the homes we built and lived in. I come from a long line of construction workers and the trades are in my blood so to speak.

I developed a Do-It-Yourself mindset from a very young age out of necessity as well as passion. To this day, that still rings true and I instill this same mindset in my own children as they grow up.

Over the years I have met countless people who have the desire to tackle home projects or begin a build of some sort but don’t have the confidence or know-how to begin. Ultimately they either hire someone else to do the job or they never get around to it altogether. While I think certain projects should be left to the pros, it saddens me to see people never tackle a project and DO IT THEMSELVES because they lack confidence or knowledge!

That’s why I created Tekton Travis.

Why Tekton?

The Ancient Greek noun tektōn (τέκτων) is a common term for an artisan or craftsman, particularly a carpenter, woodworker, or builder.

In the Bible, Mark 6:3 refers to Jesus as a carpenter, or craftsman (tekton), which was His occupation before He started His ministry. As a follower of Jesus Christ, it felt appropriate to apply the ancient Greek word to the theme of my journey so it stuck.

That said, everything I create is for ANYONE who has a desire to develop a DIY mindset, tackle projects on their own, learn along the way, and build a tekton frame of mind!
